Mouth Music is the child of Martin Swan in much the same way that the Mike Scott is the supreme Waterboy.
Mouth Music began as collaboration with Talitha MacKenzie in the early 1990s, on an eponymous CD that was impressive in its fusion of Gaelic mouth music, particularly Scottish walking songs, with African percussion.
Mouth Music does make a brief appearance, at least a modern interpretation of it, in "Thoir a Nail Ailean Thugam," with verses of Gaelic chanting separated by rhythmic instrumental interludes.

The adversity taught the trio how to play to just about any type of audience, just as they were able to refine their individual and collective chops.
From the hard rock syncopation of My Old Self to the roadhouse boogie of Mary Mary, Wide Mouth Mason's debut - recorded with co-producer Joel Van Dyke at Vancouver's Greenhouse Studios - is a heart-wrenchingly honest, genre-blurring amalgam of funk, soul, pop, blues and rock.
The secret to the band's inventive and intricate music stems directly their love of getting onstage and just letting it rip, a habit they've indulged in a number of tours, playing with artists as diverse as Collective Soul and ZZ Top to performing on the main stage at the Montreaux Jazz Festival.

A unique Gaelic vocal music tradition, referred to as puirt-a-beul (mouth music), became popular in Scotland in the 18th century.

 Metroactive Music | Smash Mouth
Refreshing in its expert eclecticism, Smash Mouth and its golden songwriter, guitarist Greg Camp, offer an effervescent neoretro style that's both groundbreaking and familiar, and the band's cheery pop fusion may prove to be more significant than anyone realizes.
Grammy-nominated and multiplatinum, Smash Mouth is one of the Silicon Valley's brightest stars and has outlasted most of the dotcoms.
Regardless, Smash Mouth has made a lot of money playing its cool-side-of-kitsch brand of music and, walking the fine line between arrogance and confidence, it's laughing all the way to the bank.

 Music | Cowboy Mouth
Cowboy Mouth have often been pegged as a party band, but this is the first time they’ve really made a party album.
Toning down the country and roots elements of previous discs, this one’s loud and fast all the way through, with a real embarrassment of great hooks and nothing longer than four minutes.
What’s strange is that this isn’t technically a real Cowboy Mouth album: the group was in flux and changing bass players when it was recorded, and the Internet rumor is that singer/drummer Fred LeBlanc made most of the album by himself.

BBC News | MUSIC | Larry Adler: Mouth organ virtuoso
At the age of five, he was taken to a Rachmaninov concert and developed his own musical skills within the framework of the Adler family's orthodox Judaism.
He was the youngest cantor, singer in a synagogue, in Baltimore and made himself unpopular by chiding his schoolmates for their lack of religious piety.
Adler's virtuosity was such that he could pick out a tune simply by hearing it once and he brought to the harmonica the musical richness which was once the reserve of purely classical soloists.

I give Smash Mouth two years to fulfill its promise before fans move on to the next thing, and the band is stranded without a hook, passing Shoreline on 101 asking, "Remember when?" Until then, as they say, "fuck it, let's rock."

When Rice left to pursue solo projects in the mid-'90s, the band took a hiatus, reformed as Bell X1 in 1999 and pumped out their first album, Neither Am I. Music in Mouth, the band's second album, is available on import from Universal International.
At its worst, the album mocks the sounds that it tries to emulate, such as "West of Her Spine," which is a poor man's Paul Simon/Ladysmith Black Mambazo collaboration.
Although I enjoyed Music in Mouth, it suffers from a lack of coherence, which could be attributed to their inexperience more than their lack of vision.

A pickup on the guitar converts the notes being played into MIDI, the language of electronic music that can define properties of musical notes such as their pitch and duration.
Meanwhile, a miniature head-mounted digital camera monitors the shape of your mouth and sends instructions to a synthesiser, which modifies the MIDI properties of the notes.
Stretching your mouth wide in a soul-searching grimace produces a gritty, distorted sound, while opening and closing the mouth yields a plaintive wah-wah effect.

The spiritual side arises throughout, particularly in the fan favourite ‘Rocky took a Lover’ where an alcoholic defends his way of life in a rather sentimental manner.
