Pornography in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The movie camera has been used for pornography throughout its history, but pornographic movies were for most of that time typically only available in the United States by underground distribution, for projection at home or in private clubs.
The prototypical female porn star in the United States is a Caucasian woman in her mid-twenties, wearing high heels, with bleached blond hair and with large breasts (usually augmented by breast implants) and buttocks, and often with tattoos and/or body piercing and a dark suntan with tanlines.
In general, the pornography industry does not depict safer sex: mainstream pornographic movies now depict a range of behaviors including anal sex that are high risk activities for sexually transmitted disease transmission, as if the taboo status of these activities has made them more thrilling for the consumers of pornography.

Movies of the United States - FreeEncyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
By way of explanation, she said that the words, which came from an Italian movie poster, were "perhaps the briefest statement imaginable of the basic appeal of movies." Certainly, they sum up the raw energy of many American films.
No two movies were exactly the same, but most followed a formula: Western, slapstick comedy, film noir, musical, animated cartoon, biopic (biographical picture), etc. Yet each movie was a little different, and, unlike the craftsmen who made cars, many of the people who made movies were artists.
Added to the skyrocketing salaries paid actors, studio heads, and deal-making agents, it means that movies released today tend to be either huge successes or huge failures, depending on how well their enormous costs match up with the public taste.

"They want a reason." But reasons are hard to come by in The United States Of Leland, an unsatisfying tale of a teenager who stabs a mentally disabled boy.
As disconnected and vague as its morally ambiguous hero, The United States Of Leland throws up more questions than it can answer.
Drawing on his experience in the juvenile justice system, writer/director Matthew Ryan Hoge has fashioned a story that tackles heavy issues of right and wrong, but finally settles on the trite idea that killers are human beings too.

City Pages - Movies - The United States of Leland
Hoge gives a subplot to each of these characters, cluttering up a narrative that works best when it focuses on the little things: Cheadle and Gosling's friendly conversations in a flatly institutional classroom, Gosling telling Malone that he likes the way her shampoo smells, et cetera.
Hoge has a strong sense of light and color in suburban spaces, but his distinctive visuals are forced to compete with the soundtrack's clichéd guitar atmospherics and the movie's generally warmed-over tone.
But United States is most profoundly undone by Gosling's affectless, faux-naif performance, complete with American Beauty-style narration about how terrible yet wonderful the world is. If that's a lesson art house audiences still need to hear, they can surely hear it from someone who has at least finished high school.
