Movin' Out (musical) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Movin' Out is a Broadway jukebox musical featuring the music of Billy Joel, and was conceived, directed, and choreographed by Twyla Tharp.
Movin' Out is an unusual musical because it is essentially a dance show with a very loose plot, and none of the actors sing.
Movin Out opened in London's West End on April 10, 2006, at the Apollo Victoria Theatre - where James Fox was the lead piano player and singer, with Darren Reeves as second piano man. Unfortunately the show closed early on May 22, 2006 due to poor ticket sales.

 Musical Theatre Articles
Musical theatre in the twenty-first century is taking on an image often far removed from the classic musicals of the past.
Musicals employ those who are proficient as dancers, actors and singers, but it is the “triple threat” individuals who are most sought out.
This week's article is a tribute to yet another of the classic musicals featuring music by the famous team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, The King and I. Set in 1860's Bangkok and based on Margaret Landon's novel, "Anna and the King of Siam" and the life of Anna Leonowens,...

Movin' Out Review Music & Lyrics by Billy Joel, conception by Twyla Tharp at Apollo Victoria London 2006 with James Fox
The programme for this show describes it as a 'new musical', but 'Movin' Out' is certainly not a musical in the accepted sense of the genre, or what most people would recognise as 'a musical'.
In that sense, the format for 'Movin' Out' is irritatingly similar to 'Sinatra at the London Palladium', though there's not the same amount of technical wizardry in 'Movin' Out'.
In 'Movin' Out', the storyline is developed solely in the dance and lyrics.

But none of the musical contraptions linking songs from different sources, including such Stephen Sondheim song-trunk jobs as "Marry Me a Little" and "Putting It Together," ever fully solves the problem of forcing an unnatural continuity to compositions conceived independently.

The general idea behind the song is the ultimately futile quest for material possessions and status: In the end, the rewards are a "heart attack" or "a broken back," which the author contrasts with his bohemian refusal of such a work ethic (see, for instance, Joel's portrayal of himself in "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant").
