 Harper album soulful and moving
These two disparate songs are a harbinger of the entire album, as Harper is unafraid of putting a foray in ragtime next to a Zeppelinesque anthem.
When an artist's debut is critically hailed as one of the best albums of the decade, his or her subsequent work is usually subjected to closer and harsher scrutiny.
Collaborating with DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill and Grease of DMX's Ruff Ryders, the album is Tricky's most rap-oriented yet, and though it is a clear departure from his past work, it should not displease his long-time fans.

The album starts at full throttle with Tom Sawyer*, which was talking about modern-day heroes and using one of Mark Twain's character as a metaphor and featured rapid playing by Peart, guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist/vocalist/keyboardist Lee, whom was singing more and more in a lower octave on this album than previous albums.
Moving Pictures was an instant smash peaking at #3 on the Billboard album charts and selling over 4 million copies in the US alone making it Rush's biggest seller.
This album is seen as one of, if not RUsh's best album and also as the transition between their first few CDs (which were more hard/prog rockish) and their more experimental future albums.

The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Moving Pictures
Moving Pictures, the 1982 release from Canadian hard-rockers Rush, marked a series of changes for the group - many of which had actually been in place for some time, and simply came to fruition with this release.
Undoubtedly their most recognized album (thanks to rock radio playing almost the entire first side to death), Geddy Lee and crew took the foundation they laid with Permanent Waves, improved the overall sound, and created what was, to that point, Rush's strongest album.
Moving Pictures took Rush and placed them in the bright lights of superstardom - and this album proved they deserved every moment in the glare.

This catchy opening track is followed by one of the gems of this album: ‘Red Barchetta’ is a magical rocky number that conveys a mesmerized air of contemplation in both the lyrics and the melodic lines, with a well adjusted instrumentation that flows between the harsh and the subtle.
All of the elements of this album were present in Permanent Waves, a prog rock meets new wave kind of quirky hard rock, but what the band has done here is matured a little and formed a cohesive whole out of all their elements to form a more refined sound that was truly their own.
Moving Pictures is Rush at their greatest, and although many, many albums have been released since, nothing has captured it's magic.

Indeed there are occasions on ‘Still Life, Forever Moving’ where an overpowering sense of disorientation confuses the listener, particularly on the staid instrumental ‘Chinese Wall Declaration’, and the choice between wanting to hear the rest of the record or switch off completely becomes a close run thing.
The Mean Red Spiders released their third album Still Life Fast Moving back in October of 2002, but as we pass the one-year anniversary, the record retains its shimmering summer feel.
Still Life Fast Moving is admirably cohesive and poppier than any of their work to date, without the aggressive assault that Humphreys brought to the band.

The sound of this album is somewhat similar to the debut "200 Km/h In The Wrong Lane," but with alot more variety.
The other sounds of the album are more dance-based, and at times virging on the almost rock sound (you don't believe it, I know).
Unfortunately, "Craving" lets the whole album down, it's really bad, and there's no disguising the fact that this poor quality pop ballad with corny lyrics should have been left off of the album well and truly.

That internationalism pervades into the album, which layers African singing over jazz- and Latin-influenced four-four house beats, throwing in a touch of disco along the way.
And their dance music credentials come to the fore when the album finds its groove, as it does with the deep vocals of "Got to Find a Way." There's a too-much-of-the-sameness in the last few instrumental tracks, which seem indistinguishable, but that's a minor quibble compared to the quality of the rest of the album.

I first downloaded Ya Soshla S Uma - the original Russian version of All The Things She Said - months before the english album was released, and I immediately fell in love with the strong, raw sound they produced.
