Pub rock and R&B-influenced Moving Pictures are best remembered for their power ballad "What About Me?," which shot the band to number one in Australia in 1982.
U.S. label Elektra signed the band and released "What About Me?" in the U.S., where it reached number 19 on the charts, but on the eve of a U.S. tour that included support dates for Tom Petty, Hall and Oates, and REO Speedwagon, Elektra collapsed and the tour was cancelled.
Moving Pictures' second album, Matinee, was released in October 1983 and reached number 16 in Australia.

Obviously so, this album featured the band on it's prime developing the roots of what was to become of prog-rock in the 80's and 90's, being probably one of the most influential albums within the genre.
One can really say that the band shines as a unit on this song; every aspect of the song is covered perfectly to the last detail, taking us through a whole series of moods as we listen to the lyrics evolve in a pleasant journey in the countryside.
It would be hard to even picture where most bands would be at if it wasn't for the strong influence of Rush in their approach to music.

Mind you, that's not because I share the common opinion that they jumped the shark in the mid-1980s; I may be alone in the world in thinking that these guys have never released a bad album, but that is in fact what I think.
This is also the album that catapulted the band's popularity to the masses.
The guy working the counter had that same station on and the DJ came on saying that this is the latest cut from Moving Pictures; the radio slogan at that time was Crank It Up!..and that's EXACTLY what the worker behind the counter did...he cranked it up through those massive Infinity speakers.

Geddy Lee was slowly introducing synthesizers into the mix, usually to ease listeners into the song and underscore spacier passages, but Moving Pictures is still analog Rush: the superlative rhythms and fiery guitar work are in full force.
Like Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures puts its best features up front; as good as the first side of music is (with “Limelight” providing the knockout punch this time), the second side falters slightly.

The Last Moving Shadows is 2-disc CD-R Band bootleg from Massive Attack Discs, probably named after Ron Horning's 1988 article "The Moving Shadow of Richard Manuel" from Village Voice, about The Band's former lead singer.
Disc 1 contains live recordings from various venues 1984-1986, disc 2 is from a good quality soundboard tape recorded at The Band's concert at New York's Lone Star Cafe, February 8, 1986, less than a month before Richard died.
