  Moya Lear Forwards Award To Embry-Riddle University
Moya Lear, who this past July received the $10,000 monetary portion of the 1999 Amelia Earhart Pioneering Achievement Award at the Amelia Earhart Festival in Atchison, KS, donated the money to Embry Riddle University on Wednesday.
Lear told a small group attending the ceremony at NBAA that the monetary reward was given with the understanding that it would, in turn, be given to the university of the awardee's choice and "that was easy.
Lear is a former trustee of Embry Riddle and received an honorary doctorate there in 1981.

Moya Marie Olsen Lear (March 27 1915 – December 16 2001) was an American businesswoman and the wife of aviation pioneer Bill Lear.
Lear received a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University and earned a total of six honorary doctoral degrees, and devoted a substantial amount of time to philanthropy in the Reno, Nevada area.
After the death of her husband, Lear attempted with investors to complete his innovative lightweight turboprop airplane, the LearFan, but the project ultimately failed to obtain FAA certification because of a gearing problem, and never went into production.

In the 1920s, Lear and a partner, Elmer Wavering, invented the first practical car radio, eventually selling their patents to the Galvin Corporation (which would later become the Motorola company).
