The council's makeup is currently 4 for Sinn Féin, 2 for the Ulster Unionist Party, 3 Independent Members, 3 Social Democratic and Labour Party members, and 3 for the Democratic Unionist Party - whose numbers were increased following the defection of a UUP member.
Together with the neighbouring Local Council areas of Ballymena and Ballymoney, it forms the North Antrim constituency for elections to the Westminster Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly.

A council majority also voted not to provide Bushmills Ulster Scots Heritage Trust with £7,000 to assist in the employment of two workers who would look to the development of cultural activity and the enhancement of the village.
So while Moyle District Council’s rates have increased 7.96 per cent, it does not mean that each individual householder’s rates will be affected by 7.96 per cent.

The council has said it cannot affort the costs of rebuilding the centre and both the National Trust and a private company are bidding to redevelop the nine-acre site.
The council was set to decide on which plan to proceed with but a last-minute motion has been lodged by unionist councillor William Graham, calling on the council to reverse its decision to sell the land.
