On "The Logic of Moral Discourse" 6
Indeed, the main logical point is the last: Imperatives, that are often rendered with an exclamation-mark when writing them, and requests, that are often rendered with a question-mark when writing them, are emphatically not true or false in the sense statements of fact are true or false.
I shall suppose this is so, though from a logical point of view several remarks could be made that I forego.
Edwards' book is not about formal logic, he is right that there are ordinary senses and usages of "should" and "ought", that most people know from their childhood or their raising children, which are quite reasonably explained along such lines as he offers.

 Heckler #48 - Project Logic
Perhaps you've heard of them through the various collaborations of band leader DJ Logic, the likes of which include Medeski, Martin and Wood, Moe, Karl Denson, John Scofield, etc. Perhaps you're now thinking, "I don't want to read about another one of those dirty, hippie, jam bands." Fortunately, this couldn't be further from the truth.
His new album, The Anomaly, due out May 22nd, will prove to the world that Project Logic is one of the most diverse musical outfits known to man. I had the pleasure of speaking to Mr.
Logic and his band mates (Casey Benjamin on the sax, Rhodes, flutes, ewi, Stephen Roberson holdin' down the tight beats, Mike Wietman on keys/synths, various players on the bass and Andy Hurwitz on the management side of things) at several of the Project's recent gigs around the midwest.

The Leprechaun Of Logic Soils Himself In Public
Mr G, always keen to reach new heights of idiocy, has continued to dump his aimless thoughts on Lenin's Tomb, some of which are directed at me, some to others, but many at no one in particular -- which seems to be his favourite audience.
Mr G then indulges in something he falsely accuses me of doing: i.e., re-defining this word (or rather, using it in an idiosyncratic sort of way) as he now does himself as a "necessary contradiction", while failing to note that all contradictions are necessary, anyway.
Mr G is so lost in his own little world that he thinks that anyone who disagrees with him uses exactly the same debating tactics he uses.

TBRC Responds to Benjamin Radford’s Pseudo-logic
He asserts that when a well-equipped team of professional and amateur scientists conducts a field study in the woods of rural Arkansas, and reports no sightings of the undocumented creature referred to as “bigfoot,” that it somehow validates or strengthens the position of those who claim that the animal does not exist.
Few researchers would be brazen enough to risk the loss of project funding, or risk their personal and professional reputations, by coming back with anecdotal reports of sasquatch encounters, exposing themselves to ridicule and insinuations from Benjamin Radford and others like him that such sightings were caused by wishful thinking and/or misidentifications.
The biggest logical problem I see in the Response is the straw man argument—- criticizing an opponent for a position they never took.

Good Math, Bad Math : Basics: Logic, aka "It's illogical to call Mr. Spock logical"
They should teach logic in English class, since most chains of reasoning the mean person is most likely to encounter, as well as those they're mostly to construct themselves, are verbal and have zero to do with math.
Basic logic - just enough basic propositional and predicate logic to be able to understand proofs, and distinguish between valid arguments and invalid arguments - should be part of very basic math - no later than 7th or 8th grade.
By first choosing a logic which is able to express the statement you wish to prove, it shouldn't be hard to pick a set of premises which let you prove it.

Amazon.co.uk: Logic and Mr. Limbaugh: Books: Ray Perkins   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Perkins is right on the money when he points out Limbaugh's logical errors, but Limbaugh is just too easy a target to form the basis of a serious introduction to the subject of logic.
The majority of his "analysis" of Rush Limbaugh's opinions and statements is written employing a major logical fallacy: that of Straw Man. The author has a tendency to take Limbaugh's statements and misinterpret them into weaker arguments with which he cites as examples of the logical fallacies.
If you want to learn logic in theory and in practice this is not the book for, though the logic theories are acurate, the major logical fallacy of Straw Man is employed in the method the author goes about presenting and applying these logical fallacies.

 Philosophy Now
One thing in logic that is often used in humour and that usually serves the role of essence is known as ‘contradiction’ or ‘absurdity’.
As in formal logic this means that the fallacy is used to get you from one thought to another; but, unlike the case of correct logic, fallacies have in them mistakes in reasoning, which at times are tricky to catch.
Since logic can be an essential part of humour, sometimes requiring you to follow along and make intuitive inferences, this seems to imply that some logic is implicit in the way we think and that there are some logical forms we relate to and reason well with.
