"Mr. Show with Bob and David" (1995)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
the shows are all remarkably written, with scenes and themes flowing in and out of one another.
Show with Bob and David", despite its short, four-season lifespan, does the best job of re-inventing sketch comedy, in a form that is like no other.
Lots of characters, lots of childish, scatological humor, lots of laughs, all packaged into one hell of a show that for all of its silliness is extremely intelligent.

TVShowsOnDVD.com - Review for Mr. Show - The Complete 3rd Season
Created as a lead-in to the second season, Fantastic Newness is basically a clip show, showing bits of the first season and hints of the upcoming second season.
Clip shows suck, but seeing as this one features some of the best sketches of the first season and ends in a riot, it can't be that bad.
The lack of chapter breaks is easier to understand, as the show doesn't have the commercial in and out points that make natural chapter breaks in any other show, and the show has a very short title lead-in, so there's nothing to skip, but a full half-hour is a lot to scan through.

Shandling's talk show within a sitcom, "The Larry Sanders Show," beginning its fifth season November 13, remains the best-written, most daring comedy series on TV; it's a hilariously mordant dissection of the TV industry and the posers and putzes therein.
Show" have in common, besides intelligent and funnysatire, is a pleasing, sustained sourness, a lack of faith in the essential goodness of humankind.
Show" is obviously influenced by "Monty Python's Flying Circus" — skits blend into one another and episodes are titled with out-of-context lines of dialogue (the November 15 season opener is called "A Velveteen Touch of a Dandy Fop" — don't ask).

Show did enjoy four seasons on HBO from 1995 to 1998, I believe it was snatched from the airwaves just as it was beginning to hit its stride.
Instead, the show worked as a kind of stream of consciousness experiment, seamlessly segueing from one sketch to the next, some of them done live in front of an audience, some of them pre-taped, and some of them mixing both elements together at the same time.
Show moment ever was in the first episode when, right in the middle of a sketch, David Cross broke character to rant about how HBO didn't provide them any kind of a budget and how the show was taped in a restaurant.

Show was a sketch comedy series featuring former Saturday Night Live writer Bob Odenkirk and stand-up comedian/actor David Cross.

Hence, the show, particularly its later seasons, tends to polarize people between those who love or hate the show.
