From what I know Mubah are acts that neither put us in sin or gain reward.
Also read/heard that your parents can stop you from performing Mubah acts since they're not obligatory and obeying parents is, and neglecting their wishes is one of the Major sins and angers Allah(swt).
Mubah is a recommended act - be it of worship or other things.

Friday Lectures by Maulana Sadiq Hasan
One of the most important conditions for a thing to become mubah (lawful) is that the khums for that thing (if wajib) must have been paid.
Ignoring the condition of mubah for salat is the same as taking salat lightly or insignificant (istekhfaf) and amounts to a great sin.
If khums was wajib on the clothes you are wearing and has not been paid, and if the salat has been offered in such clothes, then the salat is batil (invalid) even if you did not know this rule.

The mubah is which the daleel as-Sami shows that the address of the Legislator implies to choose between performing an action or abstaining from it.
Every action that is part of his nature, such as standing, sitting, drinking, and eating etc., are indisputably permitted (mubah) for both him and his Ummah.
It is contingent upon the evidence on whether the actions are compulsory (fard), recommended (mandoub) or permitted (mubah).

For instance, giving information is Mubah; however, giving information to the authorities about the Islamic campaigners would be forbidden if they cause harm to the campaigners, for this would be a reality to which the Sharia'a principle mentioned above applies.
It is also deduced from other texts that it is Mubah for a person to inflict harm upon himself; one of these texts is reported by Bukhari on the authority of Aysha who said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) used to stay through the night praying until his feet would fissure.
For instance, the fasting which causes a headache and which does not hinder the performing of other duties, would still be desirable, and so would be the staying through the night, even if it led to tiredness and the aching of the feet, it would still be Mandub.

However, all mubah (permitted) matters are governed by certain provisions or regulations of Shari'ah (Islamic Law).
If these regulations are ignored, then a mubah (permissible) act will be rendered impermissible and may in fact, itself become an act of transgression and sin, akin to oppression.
A Muslim is always motivated by the desire to seek Allah's pleasure in all that he does and will not transgress or violate His orders in the process of attempting to perform a mubah (permissible) deed.

 Key to Islamic Concepts
Mubah (Allowed): This category is left undecided and left for the person, such as eating apples or oranges.
Doing or not doing the Mubah does not count as a good or bad deed.
For example, any Mubah becomes Haram if it is proven harmful, and any necessary thing to fulfill a Fardh is a Fardh too.

7- The Mubah is not that which carries no (haraj) rebuke, for the absence of rebuke from the performing or the refraining does not indicate a Shari'ah permission, nor does the lifting of rebuke necessitate the granting of choice.
Hence, the Tawaf during Hajj and Umrah is an obligation and not Mubah.
Therefore, the Mubah is not that which there is no rebuke in it, rather the mubah is that which the heard evidence from the address of the Legislator has indicated the granting of choice between performing or abstaining without any other alternative.

It is only mandub for the Hanafi school of thought as a matter of respect, but there is no evidence to back this claim.
Sheikh Al-Islam Zakariya Ansari says, 'Respectability is refraining from conduct that is unseemly according to the standards commonly acknowledged among those who observe the precepts and rules of the Sacred Law'.
But to say that "it is mubah to cover it in salat and whoever says it is mandub has no proof" is to me a proof of wayward thinking.

Patience can be divided into categories following the five categories of deeds, namely wajib (obligatory), mandub (encouraged), mahdhur (forbidden), makruh (disliked), and mubah (permissible).
Patience in staying away from fight at such time when Muslims are killing each other, is mubah (permissible) in deed it is mustahabb (liked or preferred).
This is different to the days when Muslims are fighting kafirun; in that situation the Muslim has to defend himself, because the meaning of jihad is to defend himself and Islam.

His statement that the Meelad Shareef can also not be Mubah because the Ijma' of the followers of Islam is that anything that is a Bid'ah (innovation) in religion cannot be Mubah, is one that is not accepted.
And the way to know to which category it belongs is to examine it together with the laws of Shari'ah.
Umar (radi Allahu anhu) did say about standing in prayer in the month of Ramadaan, "What a good Bid'ah this is!" meaning that this is a new thing which was not there before and being a new thing it does not contradict anything that went before.

In illustrating the action of sunnah, it was explained before that some expressions are employed to indicate that certain commands are under the sunnah regulation.
Thus, the mubah ruling is independent because it is neither under the category of amr (command) nor the category of nahy (prohibition).
A deep understanding and a detailed interpretation of the classifications of Islamic law is of great significance to mujtahid and istinbat scholars as human actions and practices cannot be separated from any one of the rulings classified by shara‘.

(4) Earth for tayammum: it must be mubah and even the place where the earth is must also be mubah.

To re-iterate this point, we can therefore say that everything which Allah ta'ala has created is made for the enjoyment of mankind, and for that purpose everything is subjugated (brought under man's control) for his use.
In other words, this is the rule of ibaha, which means that everything is mubah (neutral, permissible) unless expressly and specifically forbidden by law.
However, if it is spent in compliance with the law and the rules and regulations relating to Zakat, and with the intention of fulfilling that religious obligation, then Insha Allah they would be rewarded for it by Allah ta'ala.

We can't equate taqwa to fear although it imperative that fear is a quality of one who has taqwa.
Many things may be allowed, but the sahaba refrained from "9/10 of what is mubah" out of fear for falling into haram.
I'm not saying we should be robots, there are ways to have fun in Islam that are prefereable like hanging out with people that have taqwa, and are deening; surrounding yourself with their presence rather than the presence of "at the best, mubah" influences.

I feel anxious that with the prodding of the accursed devil and the human satans they may cease from what is mubah (permitted) and do what is dubious or dive into the haram, thus falling down to a shameful state in the presence of our Owner.
Being very bounteous, generous and merciful, Allahu ta'ala made many things mubah (permissible) for His born servants; He gave us permission to do many things.
So wretched and poor are those who, not being satisfied with the mubah because of their sick souls and corrupt hearts, exceed the borders of Islam and go as far as to do the dubious or haram things, leaving off so many inexhaustible mubah choices.

Istikhara, in Arabic, means 'to seek khair' and is done for things that are mubah, in which a person is confused whether to do it or not to do it.
For eg., purchasing a house is mubah...when a person is confused whether to buy it or not he consults with Allah to know if purchasing it is 'khair' for him or not.
Usually those who act against the advice of any valid Istikhara, face bad consequences.
