Topic: Much Binding in the Marsh

  Marsh - LoveToKnow 1911
The significance of a marsh area is not so much in the manner of its formation as in the peculiar chemical and physical results that accompany it, and its relation to the ecology of plant and animal life.
Chemically it is productive of such gases as arise from decomposing vegetation and are transitory in their effects, and in the production of hydrated iron oxide, which may be seen floating as an iridescent scum at the edge of rusty, marshy pools.
A curious morphological inversion follows in a later geological period, the marsh area forming the hard cap of a hill (see Mesa) while the surrounding sandstones are weathered away.

Marshes tend to be more rich in minerals and nutrients, so they have a richer variety of plant and animal life than bogs.
Marshes tend to moderate the effect of varying water levels and reduce flooding by absorbing water and then slowly releasing it.
Much of the original loss was due to increased water levels in Lake Ontario, which has been kept artificially high for navigational purposes, and excessive nutrient inflow from sewage treatment facilities.

SoundStage! Equipment Review - Marsh Sound Designs MSD-A400s Stereo Amplifier (1/2003)
Interestingly, Marsh and Soliloquy both design their products in the US, but Marsh uses cost-efficient manufacturing facilities in the Far East to allow them to provide higher-quality products at lower cost than if everything were done domestically.
Likewise, the Marsh amp communicated the slight sheen that I’ve come to associate with Matthews’ vocals, but again it sounded more in balance with and a natural function of his voice rather than an electronic addition to it.
The Marsh’s bass capabilities may be a burden or a blessing depending on your associated equipment and cables, and on that basis I would categorize the A400s as the more fussy of the two in terms of its ability to morph into any system.

Using this much more sensitive assay we were able to observe turn-over with all of the mutants and determine their steady-state kinetic properties.
The apparent Km for glutamate of the mutants is raised by only two to four-fold, indicating that glutamate binding is little affected by mutations to the histidine-aspartate pair.
However, the binding of B12 to glutamate mutase is, kinetically, complicated and values for Km may not reflect the true dissociation constants for B12-binding.

Dave Marsh: Scapegoats. The Music Industry's War on Cassettes
Today, music retailers complain much more often that the labels are killing off the cassette, which is being done openly and deliberately, than about file-sharing or even CD burning.
But cassette machines are still way cheaper than CD players, blank cassettes can be reused, if you make a mistake while dubbing a mix tape you don't have to start over with a fresh piece of media, and you don't have to worry whether something burned on your machine will play on your friend's.
The difference between swapping cassettes mixes--which is what was supposed to be killing the record biz in '78--and file-sharing isn't much.

Until then my experience of radio comedy had been through shared programmes such as Much Binding in the Marsh and Take It From Here, so this was a quantum leap and I thought it was extraordinarily exciting.
In my first term at Oxford I became close friends with Robert Hewison and one of the things we had in common was a shared love of the Goons and of Spike's work.
We put him in the film and he was brilliant as the man who finds Brian's shoe and gets trampled on - it was a marvellous Spike performance, though I can remember him being slightly testy about the number of takes it needed to shoot the scene.

There followed a successor show to Much Binding in the Marsh under the title of OVER TO YOU, and this ran for 28 weeks on the Light programme.

World Wide Words: How bona to vada your eek!
This last show was introduced by Kenneth Horne, an urbane straight man, who had previously partnered Richard Murdoch in Much Binding in the Marsh, a send-up of a small RAF station “somewhere in England”, but who in the intervening years had had an extremely successful business career.
These two spoke in a slangy language which was virtually incomprehensible to anyone hearing it for the first time, though by repetition week by week a mental glossary could be constructed.
However, the vocabulary is not well recorded, and now may never be, because it was normal until quite recently for linguists to ignore such low-life forms, which rarely turned up in print (and then only in partial glossaries).
