Another reason this mud has been sucessful in my opinion, is that the mud is American-based, right here in California, and many of the original coders and high ranking officials were good real life friends before they embarked into their mudding hobbies.
Muds need to realize that mud in effect is a microcosm for life, and that the good and the bad need to be allowed in a text-based game to make it exciting.
Once you do stop being a newbie and learn to play the mud the satisfaction you get from getting a character up to a high level is much greater than on other muds because of the effort that had to be put into doing it.
