Those were “The Regional Muslim Religious Board of the Republic of Mordovia (the Mordovian muftiat) related to the Central Muslim Religious Board of Russia” (December 9, 2000, mufti Zaki Aizatullin) and “The Muslim Religious Board of the Republic of Mordovia” (December 26, 2000, mufti Nail Fahretdinov).
The permanent working body of the first muftiat — The Regional Muslim Religious Board of the Republic of Mordovia — mufti’s council — is located in the village of Belozerye of the Romodanovo district, and the permanent working body of the Muslim Religious Board of the RM — presidium — is located in Saransk.
The highest body of both the muftiats is Medjlis, which consists of the elected once in 5 years delegates from the local communities.

The Kyrgyz mufti is supposed to be chosen by the 25-member Muftiat, a supreme religious council headed by the mufti himself.
According to guidelines set down by Kyrgyzstan's Muftiat at its last congress in 1996, the group is obliged to meet if at least one-third of its members vote to assemble.
On 10 August, 17 former and current Muftiat members assembled in Bishkek, along with the chairman of the Kyrgyz government's Commission on Religious Affairs, Omurzak Mamayusupov, and several commission members.

The six senior members of Kyrgyzstan's Muftiat met in Bishkek on 10-11 December to discuss the activities of Wahhabis in the country, RFE/RL correspondents report.
Members of the Muftiat have been especially vocal in their denunciation of Wahhabism since the Kyrgyz weekly newspaper "Kyrgyz Rukhu" printed an article in early December alleging two deputies of the Mufti Absatar-Agy Majitov, as well as the former head Mufti Sadykjan Kamalov, were disseminating the sect's ideas.
The Muftiat stated that it is not responsible for activities of Kamalov's International Center for Islamic Cooperation located in Osh and excluded the center from the Muslim community of Kyrgyzstan.

Attempts to break religious authority and provoke divisions within the UTO, the secular government have enacted measures to fragment Tajikistan’s Muslim population.
Through the government-controlled State Committee for Religious Affairs, a Council of Ulems, consisting of state-controlled theological scholars, has been created, replacing the abolished office of Muftiat (the de facto head of Tajikistan’s Muslims) and heads of regional and district mosques.
This possibility should not be easily dismissed, as Rakhmonov has a track record of turning on coalition partners.
