This Arthur of Dalriada married the daughter of Leo de Grance, Gwenhwyfar de Bretagne.
The Dalriada expansion westward and northward across Alba and into the lands of the Picts continued relatively unabated until the 10th Century.

Murdochs of the Southern Isles Another possiblity which has been put to me is that Murdochs of the Southern Isles claim to be 'sons' of the great Muiredach O Daly (1180 - 1222) of the Clan Donald.
He settled in Islay at the court of the Donalds in 1213 after being forced, for his own safety, out of Ireland after an unfortunate incident with a member of powerful O Donnel family.
In the later part of his life, O Daly is said to have gone on a Pilgrimage to Rome.
