"Mukilteo" is an English version of a Native American term for "good for camping." The point marked the spot were Isaac Stevens, then governor of Washington Territory, signed a treaty with twenty native tribes in 1855.
In 1906 a lighthouse and fog signal were established at Mukilteo to assist vessels navigating Saratoga Passage and Possession Sound.
The Coast Guard leased the lighthouse to the city of Mukilteo, and the light and grounds are preserved by the Mukilteo Historical Society.
