It was at Mukilteo that the Point Elliott Treaty was signed between Governor Isaac Stevens and the chiefs of 22 Puget Sound tribes on January 22, 1855.
According to the Mukilteo Historical Society, the town became the first settled by Europeans in 1858 and was the county seat of Snohomish County from 1861 to 1867, when the city of Snohomish became the county seat.
The Mukilteo park area and pilings near the ferry dock are popular places for local divers, due to the diversity of sea life and presence of squid.

MUKILTEO -- Years ago, Anita Gay of Snohomish brought her children and grandchildren to Mukilteo State Park, one of the few good public beaches in Snohomish County.
The state park fee of $5 a day or $30 a year is similar to the trailhead fee that's been charged in the Northwest's national forests for the past several years.
Anne Hersley-Hankins, a spokeswoman for the state parks commission, said schools that contact parks in advance won't be subject to the fees for field trips.

The first Mukilteo Lighthouse keeper was P.N. (Peter) Christiansen, who was given the assignment partially as a reward for his valor in saving members of a foundered ship at his previous post on Destruction Island Light Station.
In 1954, one acre from the southwestern corner of the light station site was transferred from the U.S. Coast Guard to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission to become part of the Mukilteo State Park, reducing the site to its current 1.5 acres.
The Mukilteo Lighthouse remains a fully functional automated navigation aid operated by the U.S. Coast Guard and maintained by the Mukilteo Historical Society.

The State Park is East, of the private marina, and just before the channel markers.
It's pricy enough that not many want to spend that kind of money, their reservation system leaves something to be desired, parking is a bit awkward for those who want to come by car, and the inebriates and helicopters inject additional annoyance factors.
