There are Risk Intervention Teams in every correctional centre in NSW and two permanent teams, one at Mulawa, the major reception centre for female inmates, and one at the MRRC, the major reception centre for male inmates.
Approximately 30% of inmates in NSW correctional centres are under the age of 25 and are thus categorised as young adult offenders.
The Correctional Industry Consultative Council, made up of representatives of employers, trade unions and the community, provides a pivotal and positive role in developing the rapport and in ensuring an appropriate grievance handling mechanism is in place when representations are made.

Amanda Fazio for her question because I am pleased to inform the House that yesterday the first group of 25 female inmates were transferred to Dillwynia Correctional Centre for women at Windsor, as the prison's commissioning phase moves into full swing.
In order to facilitate Dillwynia's progress minimum-security inmates from the Emu Plains Correctional Centre have in past months been attending the centre to work on the grounds and be involved in the testing procedures for all the centre's systems.
Since the majority of female inmates are mothers to dependent children, the centre includes children-friendly visiting areas that will allow children to spend a day—but not overnight—with their mothers in a positive environment that is not intimidating or sterile in appearance yet secure.

Despite this happening in front of many witnesses, including correctional services officers and other detainees, and under mandatory video surveillance, a formal complaint to the NSW Commissioner of Corrective Services an his Professional Conduct Management Committee only revealed that as far as they were concerned, this didn't happen.
The average Correctional Services Officer seems to be a violent and abusive redneck who, as a matter of luck, made it to 30 years old without obtaining a criminal record, and so gets at NSW Department of Corrective Services instead.
At Mulawa, where I was detained for four hours, the CSO in charge "Kate", who I can identify by sight, told me in the presence of another CSO whom I could identify by sight that I looked like a prostitute in the outfit I was wearing.

I can advise that the provision of health care services to inmates in New South Wales correctional centres, periodic detention centres and some court cell complexes is the responsibility of the Corrections Health Service, which is part of NSW Health.
In response to resolution 1, 1 can advise that it is the courts which determine whether a particular individual is to be imprisoned, and not the Department of Corrective Services, whose role is to manage persons who are in custody.
In regard to resolution 3, the call for a national inmate health survey by 2006 is a matter for consideration by corrections health service agencies in all jurisdictions.

This informant described an incident in a Sydney correctional centre where a woman in chronic pain had requested access to a doctor (who was supposed to be available on a 24-hour basis).
