HMNZS Manawanui has conducted vital surveys of the Mulifanua Channel and Apia Harbour, while on a four-day visit to Samoa.
Since then Mulifanua and Apia have experienced significant coral growth surrounding the channels and the current charts are inaccurate.
A preliminary report identified changes in the Mulifanua Channel due to the coral growth and recommended the correction of navigation marks to indicate the safest passage.

The inter-island fast ferry Tausala Cedar o Samoa was reported to have been badly damaged by fire at Salelologa yesterday.
The fire is believed to have broken out on board after the ferry arrived from Mulifanua.
All the passengers are believed to have left the ferry before the fire was discovered.
