  Long Trip For Psychedelic Drugs
Psychedelic drugs are inching their way slowly but surely toward prescription status in the United States, thanks to a group of persistent scientists who believe drugs like ecstasy and psilocybin can help people with terminal cancer, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, to name a just a few.
Doctors who saw their patients benefit from psychedelic drugs back when they were legal are dedicated to jumping through bureaucratic hoops and diminishing the drugs' party stigma to get psychedelics in patients' hands, and brains.
Studies starting as early as the '30s that showed positive results treating cluster and migraine headaches with psilocybin and LSD helped Wold decide to try a psychedelic.

 Marijuana Vaporizer Study
The study does not rule out the possibility that waterpipes could have other benefits, such as filtering out gases, but it suggests that other methods, such as the use of high potency marijuana, vaporizers, or oral ingestion are needed to avoid harmful toxins in marijuana smoke.
The study, which was supported by the Drug Policy Foundation and private donors, was conducted at a research lab with expertise in the analysis of various chemical properties of tobacco and marijuana.
A major aim of the study was to determine the efficacy of various smoking devices at reducing the concentration of tars relative to cannabinoids.

It is indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy, and for the AIDS wasting syndrome.
Many of the results obtained from studies of tobacco smoke are applicable to marijuana smoke.
This research group showed that passing marijuana or tobacco smoke through water, or even exposing the smoke to a wetted surface of about 48 square inches, effectively removed substances (acrolein and acetaldehyde) which are toxic to alveolar macrophages.

Consistent with the astronomical associations of such experiences, it has recently been proposed that models used in astronomy and mathematics can also be used to better understand the non-ordinary mental time of psychedelic experience (Saniga and Buccheri, 2003).
Because psychedelics seem to tap quickly and directly into this system, they may be one of the most suitable technologies for its study.
The phenomenological and empirical research suggests a clear association between the activity of the brain and the suspension of linear time and perceived cause-effect relationships by psychedelic and entheogenic substances.

HIGH TIMES Interview with Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) President, Rick Doblin, PhD. :: ...
So, it has not yet extended to marijuana or psychedelic research, but there was a period of around twenty years, the middle sixties into the nineties, where it was impossible to get permission on research with psychedelics and nearly impossible for medical marijuana.
There’s some studies that claim there is an effect on mood, but there is a lot of methodological problems with these studies and so it’s pretty clear that MDMA does not hurt your body, does not cause liver damage, doesn’t really significantly hurt your body.
Psychedelics are drugs that will be administered under supervision, they’ll spend the night at the clinic, and they’ll have therapy the next morning, and then they’ll go home.

Mind Hacks: Psychedelics: resurgence or flashback?
Time magazine has recently published two articles on psychedelic drugs: the first on the recent publication of successful psychedelic treatment studies and the other suggesting LSD was first taken up by the cultural and business elite before becoming a staple of the 60s underground.
We covered some of the research investigating the therapeutic potential of various psychedelic compounds in December last year if you want an idea of what sort of studies are being conducted.
The first article notes the slowly changing attitude of the authorities towards doing scientific studies on these drugs, and name checks MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, an organisation who have done much to promote trust between government and scientists on the issue.

Although psychedelics are still classified in the US as schedule-1 drugs, and so are banned for all non-research purposes, in November a US Federal Appeals Court in Colorado ruled that a branch of the UDV based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, could import ayahuasca for use in ceremonies.

In other words, the second wave of psychedelic researchers are primarily concerned with putting psychedelics to use as medicinal agents, a practical agenda which is accepted by the various governmental bodies who control the availability of psychedelic agents for scientific research.
Although the study of mystical experiences and neurochemistry might seem like compelling science, the fact of the matter is that most scientists are highly cautious when it comes to explaining, in scientific terms, something as precious and as guarded as the mystical experience.
In particular, it has been established that psychedelics as diverse in structure as psilocybin and mescaline (belonging to the chemical classes indolamine and phenethylamine respectively) are able to infiltrate and thus influence serotonergic neurons known as 5-HT2 receptors.

Clinical Trial: A Test of MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy in People With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
This study will examine whether two sessions of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)-assisted psychotherapy can be safely administered to participants with PTSD, and whether MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, when compared with placebo-assisted therapy, will reduce PTSD symptoms after each session and two months after the second session.
This study will examine MDMA-assisted psychotherapy in twenty people ages 18 to 70 with PTSD either related to crime victimization or combat, when combat-related PTSD lasts no longer than five years, and that has not gotten better after psychotherapy and treatment with an SSRI (selective serotonin uptake inhibitor, such as Paxil).
PTSD symptoms are measured at the start of the study, four days after each experimental session, and finally two months after the second experimental session.
