Multiface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Multiface was a hardware add-on released by Romantic Robot UK Ltd. for various 1980s home computers, like the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC 464.
Some games tried to detect the Multiface, and refused to load if it was present.
Entering and leaving the Multiface's menu a few times will fix this.

Amstrad.dk - 464, 664, 6128 emulation, games and demos   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Multiface is best plugged directly on to the edge connector; It has a through connector to allow you to connect any other peripherals.
It is good practice to reset the Multiface before each loading, as this is the safe way to fully clear the original RAM (remember you may need to press the STOP button and then return to make the Multiface invisible after resetting it!).
Multiface will first ask you to input the name of the program/screen to be saved with up to 7 characters (or just press ENTER to input RUN automatically as a default).

Introduction to the Multiface 2   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The Multiface 2 is a hardware device which plugs into the expansion port of the CPC and CPC+.
When the computer is reset, the Multiface 2 will be "visible", this means it is possible to detect that it is connected and to use the functions to access it's 8K RAM.
The Multiface 2 accessess functions direct in the disc ROM, and the location of some of these has changed in the CPC+ version of the disc rom.

Using the Hammerfall HDSP on Linux
The Multiface offers eight channels of analog I/O and digital SPDIF, as well as ADAT in and out for a total of 20 channels of 24bit/96kHz audio.
If you unplug your Multiface or Digiface, you also need to reload the snd-hdsp module and run hdsploader again when you plug it back in.
SPDIF on the HDSP Multiface is pretty straightforward; however, because ADAT and optical SPDIF share the same optical connectors you need to tweak a few mixer controls.

Therefore the Multiface can be used with notebooks as well as desktop computers.

Sinclair User 47 - Multiface One   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Multiface is so called because it can do more than just backup programs.
It cannot backup programs to hardware where the program specifically looks for that hardware and does not run properly if it is connected - such as Elite and the Beta Plus - but it can, for example, backup the same program to microdrive.
Given the wide range of hardware which the Multiface can work with, and the extra facilities it provides, the price of £39.95 is reasonable.

 HARDWARE FEATURE
Since I last looked at the Multiface One from Romantic Robot, they have up-rated it - at no extra cost - and it is now probably the best back-up device around.
Externally it looks muck like the old Multiface - with a Kempston compatable joystick interface on the left hand side, a button on the top which when pressed becks up the entire contents of memory to a variety of storage medium, and a through port for other add-ons.
The Multiface contains 8k of RAM which normally is used to hold various bits of the backed-up program.

Yes, I've been using it with ecasound for field recording and with ardour for mixing and editing.

The key is to author the business logic in a framework-neutral way so that it's encapsulated into J2EE-specific components using automated code generation.
This "multiface coding" approach allows you to take advantage of the full J2EE platform without requiring a broad mastery of all J2EE component types.
Actually, there is no such thing as a "J2EE component." Instead, the J2EE platform is made up of a handful of different component frameworks, the number of which grows with each new version of the platform.

Both Multifaces annoy software houses by allowing you to reload files you saved even if the Multiface is not present - in other words, they produce files that can be freely copied.
Unlike the Multifaces, the Snapshot 2 does not contain a built-in program, so you must load a file from tape or disc before starting to use it.
In theory +3 programs can be written in such a way that the Multiface can't copy them, but in practice it seems to be able to cope with just about everything on the market at the moment.
