A piece of soft iron that is placed on or between the poles of a magnet, decreasing the reluctance of the air gap and thereby reducing the flux leakage from the magnet.
That portion of the magnetic flux that is lost through leakage in the magnetic circuit due to saturation or air-gaps, and is therefore unable to be used.
A coil conductor, usually of known area and number of turns that is used with a fluxmeter to measure the change of flux linkage with the coil.

Multiple coil magnet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The multiple-coil magnet was invented by Joseph Henry in 1831.
It is an electromagnet that has several coils of wire connected in parallel.
This increases the total electric current in the electromagnet and therefore generates a stronger magnetic field.

Flat coil linear actuator for multiple transducer arms - Patent 4331990
The combination as recited in claim 13, wherein the magnet means additionally comprises a first linear array of high performance pole pairs arranged along a primary segment of said path and a second linear array of inexpensive moderate-performance pole pairs arranged along a secondary segment of the path, adjacent the primary segment.
That is, the magnetic heads are carried by a sliding carriage driven by a VC electric motor including a mobile electric coil positioned in a magnetic field and fed by a current of variable intensity and polarity.

Tesla coil   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The coil achieves a great gain in voltage by means of a resonant circuit, unlike a conventional transformer whose gain is limited to the ratio of the numbers of turns in the windings.
Tesla coils' outer conducting surfaces, which are charged to a high potential, have large radii of curvature to minimise leakage of the oscillating charges through corona discharges or sparks.
Later coils consist of a primary tank circuit, which is a series LC circuit composed of a high voltage capacitor, spark gap, and primary coil; and the secondary LC circuit, a series resonant circuit consisting of the secondary coil and the toroid.

Alnico magnets are necessarily made of a mix of various metals (an alloy) in various ratios that determine the resulting magnetic properties such as magnetic strength.
Because these magnets must be buffered by a steel collector they do not influence the induction properties of a string sensing coil, but the steel does much to the detriment to the sound.
The configuration of magnet lengths arranged to approximately coincide with the arc of the strings that is reflecting the radius of the fretboard for the purpose of achieving balanced outputs from the various strings.

 Experimental Tesla Coil
Suppose we make a Tesla coil secondary that is exactly one wavelength long, then suppose we wind it around a toroid instead of a cylinder, and when we are finished winding our coil we connect the ends of the wires and solder them (making one really large closed loop).
L2 is based on 1/4th the total number of turns in the entire coil for the full wave configuration and 1/8th the total number for a two wave configuration and 1/12th for a three wave.
Roughly about 1/2 of Medhurst’s coil capacitance must be subtracted from C2 and the value of C2 is split between the voltage nodes (treat section as solenoid for this approximation, use inside radius for solenoid height).

To Charge: The magnet is placed on the top of the cores, north pole of the magnet to be charged being placed on the south pole of the core of electromagnet and south pole of magnet, on north pole of electromagnet.
Magnets Made of Steel: The magnets used on both low and high tension machines are of special tungsten steel made as hard as it is possible to obtain them, so hard that a sharp file cannot make any impression on the metal.
It resides only on the surface of the steel, and it is found that a much stronger magnet is obtained, weight for weight, by making it in sections, one placed over the other, than by using a massive single magnet.

 Lakhovsky's Multiple Wave Oscillator
The copper coil acted as an antennae or a tuning coil, collecting and concentrating oscillation energy from extremely high frequency cosmic rays.
These simple coils, worn continuously around certain parts of the body, would invigorate the the strength of the human cells and increased the immune response which in turn took care of the offending pathogens.
To achieve the Lakhovsky effect, it's important that the coil (or bracelet) is "open" and made of copper.
