  Multiple unit
The motors driving the train on a multiple unit, are mounted underneath the floor of the carriages, on the bogies (the assembly on the underneath of a train which holds the wheels).
Another advantage of multiple units is the possibility they afford of employing tilting technology to achieve higher speeds on older lines by hydraulically or pneumatically banking the train in curves.
Most multiple units are powered either by a diesel engine driving the wheels through a gearbox (a diesel multiple unit, or DMU), or by electric motors, receiving their power through a live rail or overhead wire (an electric multiple unit or EMU).

 Multiplicity II by Richard Walkerdine
If part of a merge fails due to one of the component units failing to reach the space in which the merge is to take place, then any other units ordered to merge will follow their movement orders unaffected (even if this results in a normal move as opposed to a move).
Support given by a multiple unit is cut up to the strength of the strongest attack on that multiple unit (not the total of the attacks on the multiple unit).
If a component of a multiple unit fails to split it will remain part of the multiple unit and is considered never to have split for the purpose of adjudicating any attacks on that multiple unit.

Factors influencing the decision to adopt multiple unit franchising arrangements
Multiple unit franchising refers to an organisational arrangement in which franchisees are permitted to own more than one unit in the same franchise system.
Multiple unit franchising appears a conceptually unsound alternative to traditional dyadic revenue sharing franchising relationships as it does not benefit from the structural and operational synergies commensurate with ownership attention at the unit level.
The model describes multiple unit franchising as a function of the context of franchise system context (age, system corporatisation, plurality of distribution, geographic dispersion of available units and level of existing intra-firm conflict), and strategic (ownership redirection, perceived future agency cost minimisation, and system rewards) factors.

Multiplicity Plus By Richard Walkerdine and Stephen Agar
Units of the same Power ordered to move to the same space are deemed to be attempting to merge.
Thereafter the GM will accept the integrity of that multiple unit until orders are received from the players that result in the multiple unit splitting in the usual fashion or one or both players attempt to displace the others unit(s) from the multiple unit in question according to the following rules.
A multiple unit stands, moves and fights with a strength equal to the number of units present in the multiple unit.

Multiple Unit Operation   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Multiple unit trains, as these trains became known, were equipped with control cables called train lines, which connected the driver's controls with the motor controls and power switches on each motor car.
Each power unit (whether it be a locomotive or EMU) has a forward wire and a reverse wire connected to a "Forward and Reverse" switch of one sort or another in the cab.
Looking at Unit 1, if the driver selects "Forward", the forward wire (in red) is energised and the "forward relay" (the arrow shows the direction of movement obtained for each relay) is energised to make the locomotive move in the forward direction.

 Multiple unit franchising
Multiple unit franchising is becoming increasingly popular amongst both franchisers and franchisees, a fact that demonstrates the growth and success of franchising as a business model.
Most of those who have gone into multiple unit franchising say they did not necessarily plan to do so, rather they were on the lookout for a new challenge and soon came to realise the economic benefits of owning more than one business once an opportunity arose.
However, owning multiple franchises is no easy task and franchisees must have the experience and the skills necessary to pull it off successfully before they jump in with both feet.
