Multiplicity (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Multiplicity is a 1996 film starring Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell.
In the movie Keaton's character, a stressed-out family man, meets up with cloning enthusiast and makes a clone of himself in order to take over for himself at work while he tries to spend some quality time with his family.
The clone, called "two", turns out to be overly macho and easily irritated suffering a residual personality-quirk of the cloning process (while having all the knowledge, memory and experience of Doug).

 Keaton's latest filled with cliches
And so, "Multiplicity" plodsalong in the gentle, reassuring manner of a TV sitcom (allthat's missing is the laugh track), with the expected "wacky"confusion resulting from the interaction of the three Dougs.
Truth be told, a couple of moments of genuinely riotousfarce do result from some rather obvious shenanigans (such asan encounter between two of the Dougs in the same restaurant),but it comes as a disappointment to see Ramis and his four (count`em: four) co-screenwriters content themselves with such simplepleasures.
The four personalities are convincingonly as slight variances on the generic personality of an actorwho may be one of the most consistently dull in movies today. It is a performance of great range only in a relative sense.

Multiplicity is a timely comedy should be better than it is, but special-effects requirements are so labour-intensive that most scenes feel stiff and leaden.
This movie is very funny, and carries a strong moral within a highly entertaining storyline.
This movie deserved more of a push than it received - it's worth checking out if you are a fan of any of the participants.

deseretnews.com - Movie review: Multiplicity | Deseret Morning News Web edition
"Multiplicity" is a fantasy about a modern man in modern society who becomes so harried that he wishes he could be more than one person.
As it is, this is a one-joke movie that too often sinks in sentiment and is surprisingly sluggish in places.
"Multiplicity" is rated PG-13 for sex — a sequence that is awfully explicit for the rating here — profanity, vulgarity and violence.

The movie was done by Harold Ramis, who did Groundhog Day and Splash (remember Daryl Hannah's debut movie about the mermaid?).
The movie has other good points too; the concept is good, the special effects (of the interactions of michael keaton with his clones) are top notch, and the script is packed with one-liners with great physical comedy.
The movie doesn't try to be anything other than a Keaton comedy, but you can't help but notice the stronger potential that wasn't tapped.

 m3review: MULTIPLICITY
MULTIPLICITY was directed by Harold Ramis who directed GROUNDHOG DAY and played Egon in GHOSTBUSTERS.
While MULTIPLICITY deals very well with some of the issues raised by cloning, I would have liked to see more confusion with identity among the clones.
MULTIPLICITY is a slow starter; a couple scenes don't hit the funny button as strongly as intended; and you do have to put up with a dollop of Hollywood sentimentality near the end.

His success as a movie star has come in those comedic roles, while his dramatic turns have largely been ignored by movie-goers.
Multiplicity, in which Keaton played a father/husband/businessman who attempts to accommodate his crazy schedule by cloning himself (Hollywood high concept at its finest, folks) was a role consistent with what fans have come to expect.

`Multiplicity,'' about a busy man who gets himself cloned, is a pleasant two-hour diversion, but it could have been more than that.
In ``Multiplicity'' the clone is an identical replica, with the same mind and memories as the original.
At 110 minutes, ``Multiplicity'' is long for a comedy, and it shows signs of having been heavily edited.

The problem is, the effects are not nearly enough to carry this movie, because no matter how many Keaton's you have on screen, they're all spewing stupid dialogue and acting over the top.
