  Hispanic TV just got a notch hotter
The launch is a sign that, regardless of the weakness in the advertising economy, the Hispanic audience is still going to be one of the most aggressively contested markets next year.
Mun2 (pronounced mundos, the Spanish word for worlds) is going directly after the hottest age group in that market, adults 18-34, hoping to take viewers from wherever they might be--whether Spanish or English-language networks on either broadcast or cable.
Mun2 launched yesterday with 2.8 million U.S. Hispanic households, replacing the former GEMS network.

In the US, Spanish-language television network Telemundo is moving its bilingual youth-oriented cable channel, mun2, from Miami, Florida to Los Angeles, California.
Mun2, which launched in October 2001, is currently available to about 10 million homes nationwide.
Industry sources believe the move to LA suggests that Telemundo’s parent company, NBC Universal, is looking to beef up the youth-orientated cable network against growing competition from Los Angeles-based Univision (America’s number one Spanish-language network) and Viacom’s move into Latino programming.
