Edvard Munch (December 12, 1863 – January 23, 1944) was a Norwegian expressionist painter and printmaker.
Munch traveled to Paris in 1885, and his work began to show the influence of French painters — first of the impressionists, and then of the postimpressionists and of art nouveau design.
In 1892, Munch formulated his characteristic, and original, Synthetist idiom as seen in Melancholy in which colour is the symbol-laden element (The Scream).

The Munch Museum in Norway is about to reopen, 10 months after it lost "The Scream" painting to masked thieves during a daylight robbery.
Museum spokeswoman Jorunn Christoffersen said the replacements were a poor substitute for the real paintings, which have a combined value of £10.4m.
I did enjoy the new exhibition in the Munch Museum, although not having the Scream and the Madonna was sad.

The Munch Museum (Norwegian: Munchmuseet) is a museum in Oslo, Norway, dedicated to the work and life of the painter Edvard Munch.
The museum was financed from the profits generated by the Oslo municipal cinemas and opened its doors in 1963 to commemorate what would have been the painter's 100th birthday.
The robbers forced the museum guards to lie down on the floor while they snapped the cable securing the paintings to the wall and escaped in a fl Audi A6 station wagon, which police later found abandoned.
