  Definition of Municipality of Strathfield
Traditionally, the Municipality of Strathfield has fought amalgamation of their area with other councils, though they annexed parts of the Lidcome Municipality in 1822, merged parts of the Enfield area in 1945 and volutarily merged with the Municipality of Homebush in May 1947.
Homebush Bay Drive bounds the Municipality of Strathfield to the north, Powells Creek, The Boulevarde and Coronation Parade bounds it to the east, Punchbowl Road and Juno Parade form the southern border and Roberts Road, Chullora rail yards, Rookwood Cemetery and the Sydney Olympic Park Rail line bound the Municipality to the west.
For NSW state elections, the Municipality of Strathfield is in the State Electoral District of Strathfield.

Strathfield Council also has policies to supporting heritage such as the provision of a heritage fund to assist property owners in maintaining important historical properties since Strathfield Municipality has a large number of heritage listed properties.
Strathfield Council was one of the first Council’s to adopt the Public Libraries Act and convened a conference with other adjoining Councils to establish a Free Public Library as a joint venture.
Strathfield was one of the first Councils in NSW to establish a Gardener’s Department, later the Parks Department.

Strathfield Council has adopted its long term plan for the future of the Municipality - Strathfield Vision 2020.
The incorporation of local government in the Strathfield district commenced on June 1885 when the Municipality of Strathfield was incorporated covering the suburbs of Redmire (renamed Strathfield), Homebush and Druitt Town (now part of Strathfield South).
On 1 January 1949, the Municipality of Enfield was abolished and the former West Ward was joined to Strathfield Municipality.

Auburn submitted to the Minister ‘Report on the proposed boundary adjustment of Auburn, Canada Bay and Strathfield Local Government Areas’ in August 2003.
