Historic Flinders Street station, with its large copper dome and row of clocks above the front entrance stairs, has been the hub of Melbourne's metropolitan train services since last century: the first trains chugged out of here in 1854.
Flinders Street station underwent a substantial renovation in the late '90s, and the resulting open-plan design, albeit a tad clinical, is conducive to moving masses of people efficiently from A to B. A gigantic open area on ground level is rimmed by coffee, snack-food and newspaper outlets and clean public toilets.
Buy your ticket at the windows just inside the "clocks" entrance, validate it before entering the station complex via the automated turnstiles, then check the overhead computerised readouts to find the appropriate platform and time of departure.

A quarantine station was set up at Point Ormond, and a track leading inland from the Point became known as Glen Huntly Road.
A later church was the Congregational one (1909), the building being a weatherboard Primitive Methodist structure transported from South Melbourne.
The strip shopping centre along the Glenhuntly Road tramline, either side of the railway crossing, is an active area with several buildings surviving in substantially original form.

SkyscraperCity Forums - Alamein - East Malvern - Chadstone - Oakleigh - Huntingdale - Rowville in pictures
Because Chadstone is not a growth centre, it is axiomatic that surrounding shopping centres already on railway stations such as Oakleigh will be adversely affected by the development.
Ergo, Melbourne's future is a choice between suburban sprawl connected with a network of freeways or high-rise apartments connected by public transport and, given a democratic choice, Melburnians have a clear preference for the sprawl.
Station on the South western corner of the site, bus interchange moved from the other side of the site to here, and the line continues to Oakleigh and surfaces alongside the current tracks.

 Aussiecon Three Progress Report #2:
The Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn, for instance, was built around its railway station.
Whatever happens to those model railways, they already have given their special pleasure; not because of what they are, but because of the way they attached themselves to my imagination.
Railway trains are symbols of power, especially when carried along by steam engines.

Carnegie's alright, I don't know much about Murrumbeena, and Hughesdale's near Chadstone, but the train station is a small one, often there aren't many people are there so I'm not sure your wife would like waiting there.
The 703 bus runs along Blackburn Road from the Blackburn railway station to the Clayton railway station passing Monash Clayton Campus on the way.
True, it's not a very popular suburb, nor the cleanest or most attractive in Melbourne, and there is a large mix of ethnic groups (lots of asians), but that doesn't mean it's unsafe.

 People: The LePage Family
Leaving Brighton, Francis went to live in East Melbourne, then the fashionable part of the City, and, being a capable young man in handling horses, became coachman to, at that time one of Melbourne’s biggest bookmakers, “Bill” Branch and his wife, for whom he drove a four-in-hand.
The only means of transport to Melbourne at that time was by horse and dray, over very rough bush tracks, or by McCaffery’s bus, which did the trip occasionally.
On one occasion whilst Mr LePage was visiting King’s Station, on the corner of South and Warrigal Roads, the station was “stuck up” by bushrangers, who took what they required, after tying most of those on the station up.

 MY HERO MY DAD
When we were about half way to the Dressing Station the fellow in front of me was hit and his head was blown off and it flew past my head, the two leading ones were never seen again.
We were eventually taken by ambulance from the Aid Station to Vadencourt Hospital and later to Roven Hospital.
Around mid 1937 he was promoted to the City Treasurers Office in the Melbourne City Council.

Railpage Australia™ Forums - Melbourne suburban - most loved/hates suburban station
The only two stations on the Sandringham line I have been to are Prahran and Windsor, and I quite like both of them, especially Windsor, it has a very gritty, "urban-gothic" (the only words I could think of to summarise how I feel about it...don't shoot me!) feel to it.
this station should be better looked after as it is one of my faves.i love getting on the train there.its like stepping back in time.
General questions about railways should be posted to the Forums.

 Scoop: Media Flash - We're Back! - Feb. 26, 2001
Stations must keep a register of agreements between sponsors and presenters, making the register available at the station premises during business hours for inspection free of charge upon request by any member of the public.
The station has yet to include any commercial arrangements of its broadcasters at its web site, although the Australian Broadcasting Authority standards soon require that such interests be declared on station web sites by all those that publish them.
As one station insider put it: 'They had no money and no idea.' The question of whether the business was trading whilst possibly insolvent - and legal obligations relating to superannuation payments, are understood to now being addressed by corporate authorities.

On arriving the leader saw a train with twelve carriages crossing the bridge towards a siding on the western side, it stopped at the railway station at A 8059, but Funston's R/T was unserviceable and he was unable to report the train, so bombed the bridge from 9,000 to 1,500 feet.
A railway viaduct at SF 1977 was bombed and near-missed, several bombs failed to explode.
As the weather deteriorated the leader decided to return to base, although a train with thirty loaded trucks moving east in one of the valleys skirting the Sava river was seen through a break in the cloud and thoroughly strafed.
