Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian (29 March 1869–Lisbon, 20 July 1955) was an Armenian businessman and philanthropist.
Gulbenkian amassed a huge fortune and an art collection which he kept in a private museum at his Paris home.
Following his death in 1955, a museum (Museu Calouste Gulbenkian) and a charitable foundation were established in Lisbon.

It belonged to the Modena library until 1859, when it was taken away by the Estense, along with the Bible of Borso and the Breviary of Ercole d’Este, which together make up a trilogy of illuminated masterpieces of the highest excellence, and conserved as the patrimony of the House of Austria-d’Este in exile in Vienna.
The body of the manuscript without the 14 detached illuminations, which are now kept in the Zagreb Academy, was bought by the Armenian collector Gulbenkian and sent to his Foundation in Lisbon.
