 | | Opened in the late 1970’s the Museum of Garden history is sited in the old 14th century church of St Mary-at-Lambeth. |
 | | The museum was opened by the Tradescant Trust, a charitable trust named after the Tradescant family who were plant collectors and gardeners to Charles I. John Tradescant (1570-1638), and his son, introduced many new plants to Britain, including Acacia and Lilac. |
 | | They created a garden next to the church, filled with all the new plants that they found on their travels, and not just plants; they also brought back snakes, fish, and all sorts of birds. |
