 Celtic Music in Italy
American Country music has some Celtic Character in that many (but certainly not all) of its folk song and dance music history comes from “Scots/Irish sources.” I have heard Americans lump all British Isles music together as “Celtic” which is profoundly untrue, as a great deal of English Music is Germanic in character.
So, nothing strange that "some" of the traditional music of Italy can sound very near to "Celtic" music: many are the bands in Northern Italy whose music will present a more or less strong flavor of "Celtic" (...or Breton, or Irish...) music.
Irish session music in the USA is also conservative as is Scots music in Nova Scotia, which means these are often the best places to hear old style authentic music.

 EOL3/Magrini: Life 4
The violin, imported to Crete from Italy during the Venice domination, was interpreted as a foreign instrument, basically unrelated to the Cretan musical tradition, and banned, while the lyra was chosen as the heir and symbol of uncontaminated musical folklore.
It must be stressed that the action of remodelling the musical history of Crete begun in the 1950s underrated the very important role that the violin and violin-players had had in working out an important repertoire of Cretan dances and fostered the artificial revival of the lyra that took place after 1955.
Later, Papadakis published a book, significantly entitled 'Kritikí' lyra: enas mythos ("Cretan" lyra: a myth, Papadakis 1989), where he offers his personal account of the history of Cretan music, sometimes tinged with mythical elements.

Madrigals - Songbooks, sheet music, recordings, CDs and history
The madrigal composed in England during the late sixteenth century and early seventeenth centuries include some of the finest music of the period and are possibly superior in truth and expressiveness even to the madrigals composed in Italy, where the form was invented and flourished over a long period.
Madrigals of the early stage were composed in a homophonic musical style (a predominant melody with a subordinate accompaniment) and were generally intended for four voices.
Madrigals were the music of the people: they were written in the vernacular, expressed common themes of love and desire, and were often accompanied by dancing.
