Its most well-known form of folk music is that played on the cabrette (little goat in Auvergnat), a bagpipe made of goatskin.
Joseph Canteloube was a well-known composer from Auvergne in the early 20th century, and produced a famous collection of folk music called Songs of the Auvergne.
The hurdy gurdy became the basis for bal-musette music, which arrived in Paris by 1880 as a result of Auvergnat migration.

Central France incudes the regions of Auvergne, Limousin, Morvan, Nivernais, Bourbonnais and Berry The lands are the home to the French bagpipe tradition, as well as the iconic hurdy gurdyand the dance bourrée.
As an example of the area's diversity, the bourrée can come in two distinct rhythms, 3/8 or 2/3; the latter is found in the south of the region, and is usually improvised with bagpipes and hurdy gurdy, while the former is found in the north and includes virtuoso players.
The southwestern region of Rousillon's music is shaped by its unique ethnicities, and includes forms of Catalan and Gypsy music The former includes the sardana and is based around the city of Perpignan.

He has performed traditional New England and Quebecois music as a founding member of the Clayfoot Strutters, one of Vermont’s best-known contra dance bands, and Nightingale, an intriguing trio of fiddle, accordion and guitar that follows the strains of North American music back to their Celtic and European roots.
McLane and Dornfeld met Desaunay while touring France last year after the release of their fiddle-and-accordion album, “Hummingbird.” Desaunay is a well-known guitarist, singer and composer, well versed in the music of Auvergne.
It appears not to be found in the music of Auvergne, where the cabrette takes on a similar role, but McLane says that it’s common in the other region he studied, Brittany.

 Baguette Quartette Repertoire
The valse musette is a blend of folk music from Auvergne and light Parisian music from the 19th century.
The musette name itself refers to a small bagpipe-like instrument that was played in the center of France, especially in Auvergne ("musette" being the name for a small bag).
The tango also claims a French heritage by way of Carlos Gardel, who is said to have been born in Toulouse and emigrated with his mother to Argentina when he was a toddler.

The only composition that received any brief success was Onslow's overture "Le colporteur." He composed a great deal of chamber music but was not necessarily well-received critically.
Much of his works for string ensembles was published in 1830 and greatly appreciated by the public primarily due to the ease of the compositions.
Characteristically Onslow's music was bland and unemotional but easily accessible to the amateur musician, especially the quintets which could be scored for a number of different instruments.

Pianist Patricia Taylor Lee came to SFSU from West Chester University in Pennsylvania where she was a professor of keyboard music and also served as chair of the Keyboard Department, Acting Dean of Graduate Studies, Interim Dean of the Faculty of Professional Studies, and Associate Vice-president for Academic Affairs.
Lee is the author of numerous publications for music teachers and a frequent adjudicator of state, national, and international music competitions.
His music has been performed nationally at the Manhattan School of Music, the University of Vermont, the University of Illinois, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Pittsburgh.

More importantly, she fails to appreciate the romantic and pastoral themes of the music resulting in a lack luster performance which, at times, is almost boring.
A music teacher who has become a new collector of CD's, this was one of the very first CD's I had to have.
However, if you adore this work of music, and wish to hear how it is interpreted by someone other than the singer you've heard before, von Stade's singing is wonderful, the performance is excellent, and the insights you get into the piece are rewarding.

Music from the Auvergne is the central theme on this album.
The third item is Achterhoekse Harmonikamuziek ('music from the east of the Netherlands'; mwcd 4016), a re-release of an old lp that was available in the late 70's.

The eldest son of Johann Sebastian and Maria Barbara, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach was of course trained by his father but enjoyed more success as an exceedingly accomplished organist than as a composer.
Stephen Hough is the soloist in Camille Saint-Saens’s “Rapsodie d’Auvergne,” a work for piano and orchestra that incorporates a tune the composer heard a washerwoman singing in one of the mountain villages of the region.
