The Birmingham Triennial Musical Festival, in Birmingham, England, founded in 1784, was the longest-running classical music festival of its kind.
The first music festival, over three days in September 1768, was to help raise funds to complete the new General Hospital on Summer Lane.
As a result, the Birmingham Town Hall was built, and opened in 1834 to house it.

There's a Birmingham Music Network and a Music West Midlands both of whom seem to do a great job of herding cats and pushing water uphill, and both purport to fulfil certain coordinating functions in the region, though at times they can seem reluctant to share information - or air, for that matter.
There's a great-looking Birmingham Music website (with the single dumbest URL ever!) that is designed in such a way that it will never show up on a Google search for Birmingham Music.
I think that the music industry in Birmingham is extremely important to the region and it's going to take a handful of committed people to make some tough decisions, take some risks and do something exciting.
