After two more years of work at the conservatory, he was forced to go to the northern badlands of Heilongjiang for "Correction." His spirit of learning never left him, and prior to his departure, he copied many western scores from the excellent collections of the conservatory's library, taking the copies with him for further analysis.
Because this piece is the first published twelve tone work in Chinese piano music, and it is based on the contents of Li He's original poem, hence this piece significantly combines the old with the new, and Chinese and western cultures.

The Northeastern folk tradition of festive suona-playing is regionally distinct, comprising a wide variety of tunes and techniques, inspired by everything from local opera to shadow puppet plays.
