Musical theater (or theatre) is a form of theatre combining music, songs, dance, and spoken dialogue.
Jilin opera is a recent invention, coming from 1959, while Fuyu County's Xincheng opera is based on Man octagonal drum music.
Jilin's folk heritage include Han wind music and dongbei dagu (drum storytelling), yangge music, the wuliger and halaibo singing traditions of the Mongols, and Korean gudaling and pansori.

The state universities have contemporary music departments, but the teachers are all trained in classical music and they do not teach music such as jazz, blues or rock, says Koga, who has been teaching at the music institute since 1999.

Rongchun Zhao was born in 1957 in the northeastern Chinese province of JiLin.
In 1978, Zhao resumed his musical training, and was a student at the JiLin Art Institute until 1982 where he studied music theory and majored in Chinese national stringed instruments.
From 1982 to 1987, Zhao was a solo performer and Concert Master in the JiLin National Orchestra–one of the four major national orchestras in China.

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Jilin Qifeng Fibre, a maker of acrylic fiber, plans to use half of the proceeds of its flotation on the Hong Kong stock exchange to set up a 50-50 joint venture in mainland China with Italy's Montefibre, the South China Morning Post reported.
The Hong Kong newspaper quoted unidentified sources as saying that the joint venture entails the construction of an acrylic fiber plant in Jilin with a production capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year.
The Morning Post quoted fund managers as saying that the company asserts that it is the most profitable of the world's major makers of fiber because its prices are higher than those of its peers.

BEIJING (AFX) - Shell (China) Ltd and Jilin Guangzheng Mineral Development Co Ltd said that they have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture to explore and develop oil shale resources in northeastern China's Jilin province.
In a joint statement, the companies said that the new joint venture, Jilin Shell Oil Shale Development Co Ltd (Jilin Shell), will be 61 pct owned by Shell and 39 pct owned by Jilin Guangzheng.
Jilin Shell will conduct tests to see if oil shale reserves in the area are commercially viable, the statement said.
