The first CD is Muktukokles, a set of original tunes composed by Valdis that explores the possibilities of the instrument, in solo and small ensemble arrangements that are both very contemporary and yet deeply mystical and ancient sounding.
Valdis also shows his fascination for the singing technique of throat singing, that while having no firm historical root in Latvia, seems to have a logical connection to the music.
The second CD is Tradicionalas Kokles and here Valdis presents the truly traditional music from the Kurzeme and Latgale districts of Latvia, the most ancient styles and songs, again in solo settings or with a small, traditional ensemble.
