While music is an important part of the Manitoba school curriculum throughout the year, its role in education will be highlighted in April 2007 through school and community events that celebrate the skills and accomplishments of young musicians throughout the province.
Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth would like to acknowledge the Manitoba Music Educators’ Association for their assistance with the planning and implementation of the musical performances at Manitoba Legislature.
Music educators are encouraged to invite their colleagues to celebrate Music Month in their respective classrooms by collaboratively planning activities that will help students reflect on the role and importance of music in society and in their personal lives.

  Manitoba Registered Music Teachers' Association
Founded in 1919 as the Winnipeg Music Teachers' Association by some 80 teachers brought together by Eva Clare and Mrs R.D. Fletcher, then the president of the Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg.
Among the association's aims was the introduction of an optional credit for music study in high school - whether the study was taken at the school or, as more often was the case, privately.
It was responsible for the institution of licentiate (LMM) and associate (AMM) diplomas at the University of Manitoba in 1935.

A collection of scores and tapes by Manitoba composers known as the Manitoba Music Centre, originally housed in the MCA office, was moved in 1990 to the School of Music Library, University of Manitoba.
Founding member William Pura (b Winnipeg 19 Dec 1948, BFA Manitoba 1970, MFA Indiana 1973), a print-maker by trade, is also a founding member of the IZ MUSIC concert society and a member of the CLComp.
David Scott (b Rochford, England 1962, B MUS Manitoba 1988), won a BMI award for At A Quiet Surface in 1986, a Music Inter Alia award for Five Short Songs in 1987, and a PRO Canada composition award in 1990 for Archipelago and was a participant in the MCA's 1989 cultural exchange to Kiev.

Tom Cochrane, a rocker originally from Northern Manitoba is famous for writing and singing such tunes (solo and with his band Red Rider) as "Lunatic Fringe", "Life Is a Highway", and "Boy Inside the Man".
In the early 1990s Susan Aglukark, born in Churchill, emerged as a nationally successful adult contemporary singer; later in the decade and into the next, Chantal Kreviazuk became a nationally and internationally successful singer and songwriter.

Often, I find that music falls into one of two categories 1) that which has no lyrical value, while the voice is fantastic and 2) that which has awesome, thoughtful lyrics, with a less powerful voice to back them up.

From the ethereal, reverb-heavy vocals of "Crayon" to the dizzyingly huge-sounding drums of "Kid You'll Move Mountains" to the sublime buildups on songs such as "Hendrix KO," Snaith seems to laugh in the face of critics who might criticize him for becoming too commercial.
Which is not to say a few Manitoba trademarks are not on display.
