There is a lot of English folk music, but my tastes to date favor only a small sample of it, and much of that comes from the northern edge of England, particularly the area of Northumbria on the border of Scotland.
Eliza's musical knowledge and command of the material is obvious, and I find her arrangements, however radical, to be intelligent and not the least contrived, in contrast to much celtic rock.
Northumbria is the county that borders on Scotland.

His first music gigs were wherever he could get a job, performing evenings, weekends, and during vacations from college and teaching.
The Berklee College of Music gave him his second honorary doctorate of music degree in May. Finally in November, he released a greatest-hits compilation called Fields of Gold: The Best of Sting, which eventually was certified Double Platinum.
Sting came up with the musical motif to use for the words — and it was (probably consciously) musically identical to the melody line in his own Police song "Don't Stand So Close To Me" from the album Zenyatta Mondatta.

Newly published research from music charity Youth Music and Northumbria University indicates that children as young as two are able to memorise and learn long sequences of words, phrases and sentences, when they are attached to music, long before they can master the same skill in speech.
There is something about the music which assists the aural memory and enables even very young children to memorise and repeat lyrics within songs.
However, Youth Music also says in its report that the so-called Mozart Effect never really happened, but was a misinterpretation of research into the effect of passively listening to music on the reasoning abilities of young adults.

What delights me particularly is that this is a family story, which tells how the Dodds (she was once Margaret Dodd) acquired their name - and this seems to undeline my point about this being a record, in the true sense of the word, of a community.

The British Music Information Centre has recently received New Opportunities Funding (NOF) to digitise some of their material and this will involve important negotiations with music publishers and recording companies, since most of the music materials they hold are still in copyright.
