USD music education student, Gertrude Jelsma, was a recipient of a national MENC Leadership Award in 2004.
USD is governed by the Board of Regents of South Dakota and is an Equal Opportunity institution.

 A&E: Music Convention held at Northern
Approximately 120 students and music instructors from around South Dakota gathered at the Johnson Fine Arts Center for the South Dakota Music Teachers Association Convention October 26-29.
Performances were done with musical instruments and vocals, with the divisions based upon ages and the type of performance.
While the students were competing, music instructors were able to attend workshops and presentations held in classrooms and the auditoriums of JFAC.
