Although 'Pacific Music' may be the neatest way to describe Te Vaka's genre - the sound is unmistakably tropical - the music also embodies influences from all around the world and has a universal appeal.
He was immersed in music from an early age, taught to play a range of instruments by his uncles.
A traditional instrument of the island of Tokelau and other parts of the Pacific, the pate is made from the Puapua or Fetua tree and was originally used for calling people to important meetings on the islands.
