Acid Memories (Music70, 1989) is even less imposing, as are the 17 short pieces of Closes Volume 1 (Music70, 1993 - Music70, 1997), but Play By Numbers (Music 70, 1994), with the 9-minute Infinite Lines Of Colourful Sevens, showcased a more creative approach.

BOARDS OF CANADA - Music Has The Right To Children
This album became pivotal in the tiny world of IDM by the way it offered an alternative to Autechre’s increasingly complex records and Plaid’s more upbeat releases.
Beside the musical project, BOC were also experimenting with imagery, enhancing their live performances with films and photos.
By the mid nineties, they started releasing Eps and albums on their own Music70 imprint, only to be noticed by Manchester based label Skam, for which BOC would record the Hi-Scores EP.

Music Forum - View Single Post - Looks like a new album for BOC in February...
WATMM claims that a UK source has informed them that several press releases have pegged the album for a February debut.
This supposition is strengthened by the observation on Music70 site that states, sans context, that 2004 is a leap year.
Further wild conjecture has led to WATMM's consensus opinion that Boards of Canada are planning to release the album on February 29th, the leap day.

In 1995, the band released the first work from the Hexagon Sun studio, the EP Twoism.
Like earlier Music70 releases, it was produced in a self-financed limited run and was privately distributed, primarily to friends and labels.
Unlike previous releases though, a small number of copies were also released to the public through the IDM mailing list.

Initially limited to 100 copies on Boards of Canada's own Music70 label, 1995's Twoism EP set a high standard for future BoC output -- though only the few willing to pay silly money for it were able to hear for themselves until Warp quietly reissued it on CD at the tail end of 2002.
For those trying to compare it to the full-length debut (Music Has the Right to Children), it holds up surprisingly well (granted, two tracks here were only slightly reworked for later release).

Sandison and Eoin also draw from the vast well of early-'80s American TV dramas and weekend matinees, as well as the closing sequences from the Lorimar (Dallas, Eight Is Enough) and Stephen J. Cannell (The Rockford Files, The A-Team) production companies, for inspiration.
Although Sandison and Eoin had been dabbling in recording since the early '80s (when they weren't yet teens), they began synthesizing their influences into proper recorded form in 1995 with the glorified demo Twoism (Music70; rereleased by Warp, 2002).
Warp released the heralded Music Has the Right to Children in 1998 and the stellar follow-up, Geogaddi, in 2002.
