 Al-Takht
The old takht ensemble did not really have a kaman (violin) player, but some of the groups had a rababah (spike fiddle) player, then the rababah was replaced later by a kaman, which is also called a kamanja (a Roman name for a spike fiddle).
Most of the musical compositions played by the takht were well ornamented, based on a dialogue among the instrument on one hand and between the instruments and the singer on the other.
The takht was considered as a music school, where artists learn the secrets of singing and playing an instrument; it improved their skills, strengthened their voices and improved their technique, instrumentally and vocally.

 NationMaster.com - Encyclopedia: String quartet
A string quartet is a musical ensemble of four string instruments—usually two violins, a viola and cello—or a piece written to be performed by such a group.
A piece of music for four players of stringed instruments may be in any form, but if it is simply a String Quartet (with or without a subtitle) it is usually in four movements, with a large-scale structure similar to that of a symphony.
This may result from the fact that the palette of sound is more restricted than with orchestral music, forcing the music to stand more on its own rather than relying on tonal color; or from the inherently contrapuntal tendency in music written for four equal instruments.
