Much like when you experience a theatre musical show, you want the atmosphere and the storyline to grab you and show you what makes the characters in the movie so special, and what they are really feeling when they sing their songs.
Some musical directors have even gone so far as to employ the original theatre cast to star in the movie, meaning that the film still retains that original look and feel that the fans are used to but the director can expand and play on this with special effects and great use of cinematography throughout.
