Musine Kokalari (February 10, 1917 Adana, Turkey - August 14, 1983) of Gjirokastër, Albania was probably the most interesting figure among the minor prose writers of Albania's pre-communist period, both as an individual and as an author.
Kokalari was the first female writer of Albania, and the only one up until the 1960s.
Musine Kokalari, once a gifted young teller of tales, was persecuted to the end of her days.

Born on February 10, 1917 in (A city in southern Turkey on the Seyhan River) Adana in southern (A Eurasian republic in Asia Minor and the Balkans; achieved independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1923) Turkey of a patriotic and politically active family of Gjirokastrian origin, Kokalari returned to Albania with her family in 1920.

TIRANA, FEB 12 (ATA)- By S. Sharrexhi, The 80th anniversary of the birth of the Albanian democrat politician, Musine Kokalari, was commemorated on Tuesday.
On this occasion, the "50 vjetori" school was named after "Musine Kokalari" and a meeting was held at the National Historic Museum in Tirana with deputy Uran Butka speaking of her life and activity.
Musine expressed openly her views against dictatorship, and because of this she served 16 years in jail and 22 year in internal exile.

TIRANE, Oct. 18 (ata) - By Eva Londo: The communist regime in Albania has built 100 prisons and camps, in which 34155 people have served their jail terms for political motives, and of whom 5487 have been executed.
The Foundation Musine Kokalari made public last weekend the complete map of jails and camps in Albania, called "Albania, a prison."
Ideated by the foundation chairman, Agim Musta, the map was realised by scholar Ylli Kolonja, who has used, to this end, the topographical books published after 1945.
