According to an article on Hans published in the Muskegon, Michigan Muskegon Chronical, Aug 8th, 1956, "Like so many of his day, he went to see when he was 15 and the sea was his life considerably more than half a century.
Hans may have returned to Muskegon at a different time or have been out to sea elsewhere when they left Norway as there is no known record of him sailing to America.
