Qutb writes that jihad is not purely defensive, as some Muslim scholars have argued, but instead that a legitimate goal of the jihad is "to establish God's authority on earth" or to "arrange human affairs according to the true guidance provided by God." In other words, violence is an acceptable means of spreading Islam.
In the end, MAS is right that extremist ideology matters and that young Muslims should be shielded from radicals who wish to turn their faith into an instrument of hate.
