 ['Aalim Network QR] Mustahab Fasts
ANSWER: (1) Mustahab fasts in the months of Rajab and Shabaan carry great rewards and may act as expiation of many sins.
It is also recommended that when one is observing a mustahab fast and he is invited to have a meal with someone else from outside the immediate family, he should partake of the food and continue to fast after the meal as his fast would not be broken.
The custom which exists in some families and communities of forcing a member of the family to break a mustahab fast has no basis in shari'at and is somewhat reprehensible as it reduces the fast and the intention of the person fasting to a mere farce.
