Mutant (Marvel comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Marvel comic books, particularly those of the X-Men mythos, a mutant is a human being who is born with genetic modifications that allow for abilities not possessed by regular humans.
With most mutant powers manifesting at puberty and the large number of young mutants who are rejected by their families, mutation parallels the realization that many young gay people have of their homosexuality in their teen years and the rejection and ostracization from family they experience.
Morrison also introduced the idea of the growing mutant youth population developing a subculture with mutant bands and fashions, and the subsequent adoption of that subculture by rebellious non-mutant youth, the latter being similar to the concept of a wigger.

Marvel Comics is an American comic book line published by Marvel Entertainment, Inc. Affectionately called the House of Ideas by the fan press, Marvel's best-known comics titles include Fantastic Four, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil, Captain America, and X-Men.
Marvel was pioneering new methods of comics storytelling and characterization, addressing more serious themes, and in the process keeping and attracting readers in their teens and beyond.
Marvel's plan failed, and by the end only Diamond Comic Distributors Inc. survives as the major distributor of comic books in North America, a development many comic retailers believe profoundly damaged the business status of the industry.

Marvel fans then saw him go to work on an established character when he revived the Punisher for Marvel Knights.
It was an unsurprising reaction, given Marvel's reputation over the past several years for attracting talent from outside the comics industry.

When 1602 was first announced by Marvel, I was under the impression that Neil Gaiman was simply going to take the easy way out: "re-imagining" the heroes and villains of the Silver Age Marvel Universe as existing in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth.
The premise of Marvel 1602 is as deceptively simple as the title suggests: the iconic characters of the Marvel universe are placed into Elizabethan England.
Marvel 1602 is a perfect vehicle for Neil Gaiman to jump back into the comics world and Marvel will definitely benefit from his presence.

The new era of Marvel Comics' mutant heroes will arrive for X-Force on May 23, with the arrival of Peter Milligan and Mike Allred as the creators of a new "X-Universe" where Professor Xavier's life-long dream has finally become a reality.
Both are uniquely qualified to steer Marvel's freshest mutants into the previously uncharted territory of a world that not only accepts them, but also idolizes them as media celebrities.
Of course, just because the world is more receptive to mutants doesn't mean that this incarnation of X-Force -- Zeitgeist, U-Go Girl, the Anarchist, Battering Ram, Plazm, Gin Genie, La Nuit, and their sidekick, Doop -- won't experience its share of conflicts.

In response, Quesada said that Marvel is working hard to make sure the books matter more, noting that in the past, there were way too many mutants in the Marvel Universe, and too many X-books as well, to the point that Marvel was publishing titles that didn’t matter in the larger scope of things.
We even had ‘Mutant Town.’ So, one of the things that we wanted to do was put the genie back in the bottle.

We've seen Khary Randolph's work on Marvel characters before, notably on the Mangaverse version of Spider-Man. Randolph's angular and energetic style suits the title character's powers nicely, but it's so exaggerated, the human aspect of the storytelling is lost.
Connecting the character to the Marvel Universe with an established character as a mentor was a smart move, but this vision of the classic Marvel hero is too far removed from the one most readers would recognize.

Also, some of the mutant powers they come up with are a bit cheesy....for instance, the character 'Maggot.' He used to be one of the Xmen's heavy hitters, another strong man. He had these creatures that look like huge blue cockroaches that would eat anything at his bidding.
