On his 1996 breakthrough album Odelay, Beck Hansen surprised a sleepy music community by blending funk, rock, rap, alternative, and electronica in ways that were both startlingly innovative and irresistibly catchy.
In 1998, he came out with "Mutations", an album that's closer to the vibes of his later opus magnum "Sea of Change" than it is to the rap-meets-funk-meets-rock-meets-electronica sound of his earlier work.
This album is a little more laid back than some of his other projects, but it's still fantastic and worthy of purchase for any fan.

Mutations (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mutations is an indie rock album by Beck and was released in 1998.
The album's title is most likely a nod to an influential tropicalia band of the 1970s, Os Mutantes.
The album was initially recorded by noted producer Nigel Godrich with the intention of having it released on an indie label (as per Beck's agreement with his major label at the time, Geffen).

 jean luc ponty
starting with the individual choice album, he began constructing attractive revolving patterns of electronic sounds with the help of sequencers, producing backdrops for his violin that were elegantly indebted to europop influences.
he took this direction with him when he signed with columbia in 1987, but on 1991's tchokola album, ponty was on the move again, throwing out the sequencers and recording with west african musicians who provided him with new ostinato patterns to play with.
it depends on the album, but i was recently in an acoustic trio with stanley clarke and al dimeola, and everyone has brought his own compositions.

Mutations is seen by some as a stopgap between Odelay and Midnite Vultures, but it is his joint best album with Midnite Vultures.
The oddest thing, though, about 'Mutations' is that Beck was at pains to declare it a 'stop-gap' release, when it stands by itself as possibly his finest body of work...but such is the contrary way of the boy Hansen.
By the time 'Runners Dial Zero' draws the album to a funereal close, you have to wonder how Beck could ever be considered an emotional charlatan; there's nothing here but the glorious example of a man creating beauty out of a post-modern malaise without displaying the obvious emotional scars or trite couplets.

Attack of the 50 Foot DVD: X-Men (2000)
X-Men the movie is the story of a world where human DNA is evolving in such a way that some folks are being born with mutations.
These mutations manifest themselves differently in different people, but essentially, people with these mutations live in fear of a world that lives in fear of them.
The mutants hide their abilities as best they can in order to live their lives unmolested.

George Graham Reviews Shooglenifty's "Solar Shears"
Some of it is more successful than other parts, but in general, it's the kind of album that you can't help but being drawn into, with its irresistibly danceable grooves and sometimes downright wacky combinations of sounds and influences, including some hints of Middle Eastern sensibility.
But where undistorted acoustic instruments are heard, they are generally rather clean, and the overall dynamic range of this album is considerably better than one might expect for as concocted a recording a this one.
Shooglenifty's US debut release, Solar Shears, is an album that can be enjoyed on a number of levels -- the way the disparate styles are juxtaposed, the clever arrangements, the first-rate instrumental work -- when the instruments are not being sonically morphed into something else -- and the great dance groove.

And their latest is not just any album, but a double live album whose chief selling point -- judging by the bold, militaristic sticker on the cover -- is an excruciating 26-minute version of the flatulent freakout "Poop Ship Destroyer."
Though hardly a definitive retrospective, it's nonetheless a loving document spanning everything from their early days as universally despised practitioners of vocal mutations, acid-fried guitar meltdowns and dementoid rhythms (courtesy of their trusty Yamaha DTR2 DAT deck) to their current incarnation as full-bodied supergroup worshipped by a swelling net-savvy fanbase that makes Deadheads seem well-adjusted.
He needn't worry -- spend just a few minutes navigating the vast worldwide Ween web (centred on the band's server at ) and it becomes clear that Ween are perhaps the only band to cash in on an early-'90s alterna-rock semi-hit (1992's dork-pop classic "Push Th' Little Daisies") and hold onto the bigger audience.

Tori verified that her new album is called "to venus and back" and that she and her crew will begin mastering the new record/disc Wednesday (July 15.) They will also start mixing the live disc after they master the new one.
This article includes comments from Tori on her upcoming live album, although as we now know there will be more than just a "couple" of new things on the album and that the b-sides disc has been replaced with a disc of all new material.
Since Tori is putting out a live album next year, it certainly makes sense that she would want real concert footage to use for whatever reason.
