Mute Records is a record label formed in 1978 by Daniel Miller primarily to release his own single, "Warm Leatherette", under the moniker The Normal.
Mute Records made a name for itself as the label that was willing to sign post-punk artists like Fad Gadget (Frank Tovey's pseudonym), Einstürzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, and Cabaret Voltaire.
Mute Records was famous for being the home of Depeche Mode and Erasure despite the lack of what is normally considered a contract.

The Grey Area of Mute Records has undertaken a reissue programme, releasing the pioneering reordings of groups and individuals associated with the industrial / experimental music genre on CD for the first time.
So it was a way of involving himself with material that Mute did not have a direct connection with at the time, but would love to have done and I suppose the main parameter is to develop it from that.
Definitely the problem with Neu is that their record label reissued the albums and really took no time over it.

Removing 'Remote Control' from the offical record books and replacing it with the Jones-less 'This Is England' (the one worthwhile song from 1985s 'Cut The Crap) may be more contentious with some, but sits far better with me. Finaly, the omission of a credit for the well-written liner notes must seriously rankle with their author.
Giraffe's a great record, but it's too offbeat to be pop, too dark to be dance, and too electronic to be rock.
The disappointment is not a total surprise: Mushroom split after the last tour, and 3D (Robert del Naja) made this record more or less on his own while Daddy G went off to start a family.

While capturing the evocative muse of Gainsbourg, the actual lyrics don't translate well at all, although Harvey doesn't set out to produce a slavish xerox of the originals, instead imbuing them with much of his own ideas and imagination.
Recorded over a two year period, from January 1995 through to 1997, Harvey seems to have headed in a similar direction to that of Big Bad Seed, Nick Cave.
Lacking the dark brooding suspense of Cave's own gothic imagery, 'Pink Elephant' is instead more a journey through Easy Listening on an uncomfortable seat.

With the emergence of Broadband Mute had begun to recognise the potential of the web as a major tool for promotion on their artists.

I don't need to go to other cities, I produce my own records with Colin Elliot who's a brilliant musician, a great friend and fantastic string arranger as well, there's Andy Cook on drums who's a lovely fella, great drummer and John who plays keyboards who's the new fella.
I had Simon Stafford before who was with The Longpigs and last but not least it's Shez Sheridan, one of the best musicians I've ever worked with, phenomenal guitarist and they're all like my best mates and I've known them 20 years and I'm happier making music with them.
