Barnes & Noble.com - Music: Mozart: The Violin Concertos, Anne-Sophie Mutter, CD
Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is one of those classical superstars who has been at the top of her game for so long that she's taken to recording her instrument's masterpieces a second time; the concertos of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, for instance, have received such treatment from her.
For collectors, the all-in-one format certainly has the advantage of convenience, for Mutter's previous recordings are on different labels: The Third and Fifth concertos, accompanied by von Karajan, are currently in Deutsche Grammophon's "The Originals" series, while the remaining three, with Muti and Marriner conducting, comprise one of EMI's "Great Artists of the Century" releases.
Mutter's famed technical panache and command of colour are as breathtaking as ever and she draws neat, energetic playing from a slimmed-down LPO.
